Restorative Dentistry, a full mouth dental restoration.

Dental Fillings

Dental fillings are restorations used to repair tooth decay, minor tooth fractures as well as minor damage to the tooth surfaces. Some patients experience loss in tooth enamel creating tooth sensitivity which can be corrected with dental filling material to eliminate this issue. The materials used to create dental fillings are tooth colored porcelain/composite or silver amalgam. These materials can also be used to aid the functionality of biting and chewing by evening out the tooth’s surfaces for better contact. There are pros and cons for each of the material options. To find out which is best suited for your needs, you can learn more about dental fillings in our Dental Fillings section.

Inlays and Onlays

Inlays and onlays, also referred to as indirect fillings, are dental restorations that are fabricated in a laboratory and cemented into place by your dentist. In cases with mild to moderate decay, inlays and onlays provide a more conservative option to dental crowns by saving as much of the natural tooth structure as possible. Inlays and onlays can also be used instead to traditional fillings for tooth decay and mild structural damage. To learn more about inlays and onlays, check out our Inlays/Onlays section to address any further question you may have.

Save That Tooth

The American Association of Endodontics reports that over five million teeth are knocked out each year. A tooth that is knocked out can be saved with the proper emergency care. Take a look at our Emergency section to learn more about what steps you can take to save your teeth in the event of an emergency.

Bonding

Dental bonding is used many times in conjunction with other procedures and can be completed in a single appointment with your dentist. There are no impressions necessary, no lab work and no temporaries involved. Dental bonding can be used to correct cracks, chips, staining, spaces between teeth, spots left from braces, crookedness and the general esthetic appearance of your smile. In addition, patients are always happy to learn that the process is relatively inexpensive. To learn more about dental bonding, check out our Dental Bonding section for more information.

Temporaries

A temporary is a provisional restoration for patients whose treatment requires healing time, lab work or extensive treatment that cannot be completed in a single appointment. Temporary restorations allow the treatment site to remain protected and safe from infection during your treatment period. Today’s temporaries give off a natural appearance and allow the patient to preview the finalized result of the procedure with regard to size, feel, shape as well as function. However, it is not uncommon for a patient to experience some minor problems with temporaries. If necessary consult your dentist about modification to tooth length, shape, esthetics and color.

Dental Crowns

A dental crown is used to repair extensive tooth decay, damaged teeth, teeth that are cracked or missing, and problems with grinding. A dental crown can also provide a solution to the effects of wear and tear brought on by age, as well as enhancing function and esthetics. A dental crown is designed specifically to encompass the damaged tooth structure to protect it from further damage and infection just like a covering for the tooth. To find out more about dental crowns and whether they are right for you, you can read more by clicking on our Dental Crowns section for more information.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is often used in replacing a single missing tooth and in some cases is the only option for restoring the proper functions of a tooth and its supporting structure. Dental implants are also sometimes used to create the supporting structure for dental bridges in replacing multiple teeth as well as increasing the stability of dentures by minimizing the irritation sometimes caused to the gums. Unlike dental bridges, a dental implant doesn’t require the preparation of adjacent teeth in its treatment. A titanium screw is used as replacement tooth roots and a dental crown is placed on top above the gum line to give a natural appearance. Dental implants are also sometimes used in root canal treatments. To learn more about dental implants, please check out our Dental Implant section for more information.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge is used to replace two or more missing teeth as missing teeth can cause teeth to shift, a change in bite, speech impediment as well as increasing your risk for tooth decay and gum disease such as periodontitis. A dental bridge is a treatment performed by your dentist that replaces the missing teeth with prosthetics and stabilizes them with crown attachments to adjacent teeth. To find out if you are a candidate for a dental bridge you can learn more in our Dental Bridge section.

Complete Dentures

A complete denture is used to replace missing teeth for patients who have no remaining teeth. Missing teeth are very important to replace as absent teeth can not only affect your ability to chew and speak properly, but also negatively impact your facial appearance with sagging features resulting from the loss of tooth structure. Dentures can either be fixed or removable. Some patients may need to have remaining teeth extracted in order to place the denture as well as correcting any bony ridges to ensure proper placement and comfort. You can learn more about denture treatment and costs by clicking on our Denture section for more information.

Full Mouth Reconstruction

Full mouth reconstruction is a treatment plan used in cases which require a wide array of procedures to ensure both a functional and esthetically pleasing smile. The teeth within the upper and lower jaws are rebuilt and restored. This treatment can span 12 months or more depending what is required for the case.
